Bacteria need water and a food
source to survive. Your skin has two types of sweat glands: eccrine glands and
apocrine glands. While sweat from eccrine glands can result in odor,
apocrine glands are more highly linked to odor problems.
Sweat from eccrine glands is
composed of mostly salt and water, however, sweat from apocrine contains a fatty
substance which is a perfect food source for odor causing bacteria. Apocrine
glands are found in high concentrations in the underarms and genital area as
well.
